Our biggest celebration yet!

On March 8th, we came together again to celebrate strength, creativity, and connection - and to stand for a world where every gender and identity is seen, heard, and celebrated.

This year’s International Women’s Day at Grounded was one for the books. With more than 400 people joining us under a lovely early spring sun, it was our biggest edition yet: double the size of last year! From the moment the first visitors stepped onto the grass at Fort Lunet 1, the vibe was electric: curious, open, and full of joy.

Throughout the day, people wandered between hands-on workshops, a powerful and moving art exhibition, and our food truck serving up delicious vegetarian dishes. Laughter and music filled the air, friends and strangers lounged together on the grass, painted vulvas on our “all vulvas are beautiful” canvas, played, moved, and danced their hearts out to the beats from our incredible line-up of female and non-binary DJs. The sense of connection was tangible. It was everything we love about Grounded: people coming together to share, create, and celebrate in their own unique way.

But beyond the sunshine, the art, and the music, this event stands for something deeper. When we started organising this celebration four years ago, it was with a clear purpose: to create a stage that empowers women and people of marginalised gender and sexual identities. A stage to fight inequalities, to claim space, and to make voices heard that too often go unheard. International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8th - a day rooted in the fight for equality and justice - and with this event, we aim to contribute our part.

The programme this year was bursting with creativity and reflection. In the workshops, people explored themes like connection, embodiment, and empowerment: from sculpting longings and weaving colourful coasters while discussing gendered language, to breathwork sessions that invited softness and presence, and circles about consent, identity, and authentic relating. Each space offered a chance to learn, express, and connect, whether through movement, conversation, or art.

What makes this celebration special is how we do it: through positivity, joy, and connection. In a world that so often focuses on everything that divides us, we intentionally choose to create a space that brings people together, with laughter, music, movement, and shared experiences. We believe that change grows from love and community just as much as from protest and resistance. We hope that what happens here doesn’t end when the sun goes down, but ripples outward into all the other days of the year.

I left the day buzzing, inspired and with a full heart. The talent and energy that all our female and non-binary contributors brought to the stage was incredible to witness - the art, the music, the conversations, the courage. What made this day so special wasn’t just the sunshine or the number of visitors, but the collective energy that everyone brought. From artists and workshop hosts to DJs, volunteers, and visitors, together we created a space to celebrate womanhood, queerness, creativity, and community. And most importantly: to stand together for a more equal world, not through fear or division, but through joy, care, and connection. Here’s to carrying that energy forward, every day of the year.
